25 Weeks

I suck. I haven't done the survey since 11 weeks... oops. We knew that was going to happen right? Oh well.

Here goes. I wanted to add non cell phone pics... but lets just face it, I'm so lazy. Don't mind the toilet... we're potty training still.

How far along: 25 Weeks 2 Days

Total Weight Gain/Loss: Only about 5lbs which I'm astounded by! But... you have to take into consideration that during the first trimester I lost almost 10lbs after not being able to eat and getting the stomach flu?!

Maternity clothes: I've bought nothing but shirts this time. I thought for a while there the only thing getting bigger were my boobs. They seem to have slowed and now my belly is starting to poke out. I'm still wearing most of my regular pants as long as they are really low rise - otherwise I bought a new BeBand and that seems to work for the few pairs of pants that I can't button.

Stretch marks: I luckily didn't get any with Landon so we're hoping that trend continues.

Sleep: Other than having a little bit of insomnia when I first lay down I'm doing pretty good - except to get up at least once to pee.

Best moment last week: I'm just trying to enjoy what little time I have left being a mom of ONE.

Movement: All the time - except this time it's LOW - like I feel like he's going to kick out my vag.

Food cravings: Food cravings have subsided - thankfully. Most recently again was root beer... or just ice cold soda in general?! And this morning... milk. I craved milk with Landon.

Gender: Boy... again. Still.

Labor signs: OMG, the Braxton Hicks are going to be the death of me this time. I don't remember having them this early - or barely at all with Landon. This time I get them whenever I am exerting myself too much or if I go from laying down/sitting to standing too quickly.

Belly button - in or out? In... it never popped with Landon.

What I miss: Wine. And being able to move quickly.

What I am looking forward to: Being done. Having an outside baby... this also scares the shit out of me.

Milestones: 25 weeks... viability baby!

It's a BOY... AGAIN!

Well, there you have it... another boy! I'm not going to lie... I cried.

I went in to my appointment on Friday and I had totally convinced myself we were having a girl. Everything has been different this time. The cravings, the sickness, the moodiness, the weight gain... everything.

Just goes to show you that every pregnancy truly is different.

I didn't have much time for it to sink in before they came in and told me that they saw "something." A calcification, on babies liver. They reassured me that it's probably nothing, however they'd like to do additional testing to make sure.

So a trip to chat with the genetic counselor, a few more blood tests and a follow up ultrasound are ordered in order to rule everything out.

The meeting with the genetic counselor was just another meeting reassuring us that based on our family histroy everything is "probably fine"?!? And I got a call the next day assuring me that everything from the blood test came back normal and with no signs that anything was wrong. My ultrasound is scheduled about 4 weeks from now to make sure the calcification has cleared up.

So after that little hiccup... we can now focus on enjoying that Landon is going to have a little BROTHER!

Time to pick names :)

Meal Plan - April 29th

Why can't I keep my crap together???

Well, it's kind of hard when your household is battling the stomach bug. A couple of weeks ago there wasn't much eating going on in this house. And if there was, it most definitely wasn't a home cooked meal.  Alas, I think we are all better now however this baby has been making feel like absolute crap around dinner time so Adam and Landon have done a lot of fending for themselves.

Anyway, I thought I'd give it a go this week.

Bacon and Asparagus Pasta - this looked yummy as I was perusing Pinterest the other day so I thought we'd give it a go!
Holy Yum Chicken - I'm sure this has a more appropriate name but that's what this blog calls is. The picture makes my mouth water.
Perfect Potato Soup - I've been craving a good soup. I love potato soup. I'll probably get bread bowls too :) I had a different recipe previously but was perusing The Pioneer Woman's blog and came across this one so I'm going to try it.
Enchilada Lasagna - This looks interesting?! I was feeling like we needed a Mexican dish this week.
Bacon Parmesan Penne - Two pasta's with bacon? Sure. Sounds ok to me?!

I'm too lazy to post the grocery list?! Sorry :( I'm almost out of the first trimester so hopefully I'll start feeling better and getting a little more energy and enthusiasm!

11 Weeks

I've seen different pregnancy questionnaires on blogs the last few years and have always really enjoyed them. I decided that with this pregnancy I would keep better track of my progress than I did with Landon. I didn't do a horrible job last time but it was kind of jumbled. It'll probably still be jumbled.

Anyway, here we go... at almost 11 weeks!

Pregnancy Questionnaire

How far along: 10 Weeks 6 Days

Total Weight Gain/Loss: I was up 2lbs last week... feels more like 10 cause I'm SO bloated.

Maternity clothes: I've bought one shirt thus far and I've already decided that I don't like it - haha. I've worn it and washed it though so I'm stuck with it. I did break out an old plain white maternity shirt for my weekly picture - I'm hoping to wear the same shirt in each photo. Pants are fitting alright so far.

Stretch marks: I luckily didn't get any with Landon so we're hoping that trend continues.

Sleep: I'm sleeping pretty well - despite the random wake up to pee. As long as I don't chug a bunch of water right before bed I'm usually good. I was having some insanely vivid dreams - I remember that with Landon as well. But they seem to be happening less and less.

Best moment last week:
Seeing this little one's heart beat a few weeks ago topped things so far!

Movement: Not yet.

Food cravings: Everything?! First craving was for Root Beer. That was at about 6 weeks. Then on three separate nights I needed to have Sour Patch Kids. Last week? Waffles. With bacon. And syrup. :)

Gender: I have a feeling... we'll see in about 7-8 weeks.

Labor signs:  Nope

Belly button - in or out? In... it never popped with Landon.

What I miss: Wine - I might just copy and paste this every.single.week.

What I am looking forward to: I ordered a Doppler on Amazon yesterday so that should be delivered tomorrow or Saturday. Hopefully we can located Baby 2.0's heartbeat!

Milestones: Almost out of 1st tri!

Potty, Potty, Potty!

Landon turned 3 on March 29th. THREE!

I had high hopes of potty training much earlier however he had NO interest. He still had no interest going into his very first Spring Break from daycare but I took the opportunity to implement what I'd like to call Potty Training Bootcamp.

Nothing glamorous about it. Underwear.All.Week.

I was off for most of the week with the exception of two days for a few hours so starting on Mon April 1st we went straight to underwear. I'd tried this before but never for more than over a weekend.

  • Day 1: LOTS of accidents. Nothing in potty.
  • Day 2: One morning accident. Nothing in potty. I think he held it after the first accident until he napped cause he woke up wet. Then he held it again from then until he took a bath.
  • Day 3: One pee accident right after breakfast. He sat on the potty before nap for literally 35 min watching Netflix on my phone and nothing. I even gave him more liquids this day. I even ran to the grocery store and totally forgot that he was in underwear... he held it! Thank goodness!
  • Day 4: He spent the night at my mom's and wouldn't go all day.
  • Day 5: I woke up SO.FREAKING.SICK. - we laid in bed all morning watching movies. Mid-morning I finally put him in a pair of underwear and what does the little stinker do? Of course he pee's in my bed as we're watching TV. So I strip him and let him play naked while I stripped the bed. Next thing I know his little potty in the bathroom is singing away?!

What?!??! Then I hear him. "Momma, I peed!"

How that little child had anymore pee in him after wetting my bed is beyond me but OMG - we just had our first pee on the potty!!! After that we had SIX more pee's on the potty that night.

Saturday and Sunday were equally as well - with peeing anyway?! We even went out to dinner on Sunday and he went in a PUBLIC potty! It's a start and I'll take it! I think we are finally on our way to being potty trained!

Yay!!!

The Invisible Mother

I'm not sure where this came - a friend shared it and I thought it was inspirational and definitely worth the share :)

I couldn't make sense of the blank stares, the lack of response, the way one of the kids would walk into the room while I was on the phone and ask to be taken to the store. Inside I'm thinking, 'Can't you see I'm on the phone?'

Obviously not; no one can see if I'm on the phone, or cooking, or sweeping the floor, or even standing on my head in the corner, because no one can see me at all. I'm invisible. The invisible Mom. Some days I am only a pair of hands, nothing more! 'Can you fix this? Can you tie this? Can you open this??

Some days I'm not a pair of hands; I'm not even a human being. I'm a clock to ask, 'What time is it?' I'm a satellite guide to answer, 'What number is the Disney Channel?' I'm a car to order, 'Right around 5:30, please.'

Some days I'm a crystal ball; 'Where's my other sock? Where's my phone? What's for dinner?'

I was certain that these were the hands that once held books and the eyes that studied history, music and literature --but now, they had disappeared into the peanut butter, never to be seen again. She's going, she's going, she's gone!?

One night, a group of us were having dinner, celebrating the return of a friend from England. She had just gotten back from a fabulous trip, and was going on and on about the hotel she stayed in. I was sitting there, looking around at the others all put together so well.

It was hard not to compare and feel sorry for myself. I was feeling pretty pathetic, when she turned to me with a beautifully wrapped package, and said, 'I brought you this.' It was a book on the great cathedrals of Europe. I wasn't exactly sure why she'd given it to me until I read her inscription: 'With admiration for the greatness of what you are building when no one sees.'

In the days ahead I would read --- no, devour the book. And I would discover what would become for me, four life-changing truths, after which I could pattern my work: 1) No one can say who built the great cathedrals - we have no record of their names. 2) These builders gave their whole lives for a work they would never see finished. 3) They made great sacrifices and expected no credit. 4) The passion of their building was fueled by their faith that the eyes of God saw everything.

A story of legend in the book told of a rich man who came to visit the cathedral while it was being built, and he saw a workman carving a tiny bird on the inside of a beam. He was puzzled and asked the man, 'Why are you spending so much time carving that bird into a beam that will be covered by the roof, No one will ever see it ' And the workman replied, 'Because God sees.'

I closed the book, feeling the missing pieces fall into place. It was almost as if I heard God whispering to me, 'I see you. I see the sacrifices you make every day, even when no one around you does'.

'No act of kindness you've done, no sequin you've sewn on, no cupcake you've baked, no Cub Scout meeting, no last-minute errand is too small for me to notice and smile over. You are building a great cathedral, but you can't see right now what it will become.'

I keep the right perspective when I see myself as a great builder; as one of the people who show up at a job that they will never see finished, to work on something that their name will never be on.

The writer of the book went so far as to say that no cathedrals could ever be built in our lifetime because there are so few people willing to sacrifice to that degree.

When I really think about it, I don't want my son to tell the friend he's bringing home from college for Thanksgiving, 'My Mom gets up at 4 in the morning and bakes homemade pies, and then she hand-bastes a turkey for 3 hours and presses all the linens for the table.' That would mean I'd built a monument to myself. I just want him to want to come home. And then, if there is anything more to say to his friend, he'd say, 'You're gonna love it there ....'

As mothers, we are building great cathedrals. We cannot be seen if we're doing it right. And one day, it is very possible that the world will marvel, not only at what we have built, but at the beauty that has been added to the world by the sacrifices of invisible mothers.

Meal Plan - April 1st

Lets try this again... meal planning. Meals have been a little a lot chaotic in this house. I have been getting sick (literally) around dinner time so making dinner (especially unplanned) has been a challenge.

I need to plan... or the next 7+ months are going to be a nightmare! So here we go!

  • Brats & Rally Fries - No recipe. But I mean, what's better for the opening day of baseball season?
  • Skinny Chicken Pesto Bake - Skinny... that's what I'm going for this week. Sides will include Crash Hot Potatoes and a green salad.
  • Guacamole Bacon Burgers - ^Scratch the "skinny" I mentioned above. OK not really, I think I'll use ground turkey instead of beef. Maybe some whole wheat buns?! And instead of fries... I'm really craving some corn on the cob. It's so not in season yet... hrm?! Salad?
  • Crock Pot Santa Fe Chicken - Another skinny recipe! Will serve with rice and corn tortillas.
  • Copy Cat Applebees Oriental Chicken Salad - I hate loath Applebees. But I do love copy catting their Oriental Chicken Salad, turning it into a wrap even.
So there we have it. Back to meal planning! Yay! Now... I'm off to the grocery store!

Here We Go Again...

Literally...

We are so excited to announce that our little family of 3 is on it's way to 4! Landon is getting SO big! We just celebrated his 3rd birthday party this last weekend and announced to our family that come fall of this year (Halloween is actually my due date!) he will be a big brother!

I'm REALLY nervous about posting this... I announced with Landon at something like 6 weeks?! If I knew then what I know now. Sheesh. But we're almost 10 weeks and I've seen that little heart beat plugging along at 150 beats per minute so I hope all continues to go well. My next ultrasound (our NT scan) is April 19th and I'll have my next appointment with our new midwife Dr. J the week after that.

I've (yet again) been a bad blogger but I got really into updating while I was pregnant with Landon so I hope I can get back into updating again. How many times have I said that?

Anyway. Stay tuned for pregnancy updates, Landon updates, meal plans and hopefully updates on building our forever home! Here's a little sneak peek into that:

Stay tuned!!!

Meal Plan 30!

Look at this little gem I found on Pinterest! The original blog post can be found here. I'm so excited about it and I've been using it for a few weeks now so I thought I would share :)

The original blogger only had 4 columns, which I didn't understand?! So I tweaked it in Photoshop and adjusted to fit us better! I love it! I don't normally type in everything - I just write it by hand but to show you guys I thought I'd type it all up.

Now I just print this out, take it to the store and cross stuff off as I pick it up!
**Oh and just an FYI if you every pick up ideas from my meal plans, I only list stuff that I need from the recipe?! So staples like eggs, butter, salt, pepper, etc. I don't list unless I personally need them.**

The blog I got it from Life in Yellow also has a really cool gift planning guide that I'm using for the holidays. I can't post my example though cause then ya'll would know what you are getting! :) Anyway, I found it really helpful and I'm actually almost ALL done with shopping and it's only the 2nd of Dec! Yay... go me!

The Post I Never Wanted to Write...

Where to start.

First of all, I never thought I'd want to write about this publicly. It's such a private thing. No one every talks about it... at least no one I've ever known in real life. But it happens every.single.day. - to women we know and all over the world; whether they talk about it openly or not.

**Miscarriage is the most common type of pregnancy loss, according to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). Studies reveal that anywhere from 10-25% of all clinically recognized pregnancies will end in miscarriage.** - American Pregnancy Assoc.
Sept 17th:
SO excited and nervous to start this journey all over again! I remember my very first post on this blog. It's the whole reason I started blogging! Not for meal plans or crafty crap?! But life. So I could look back and remember what JOY it was to have a child. And to remember our life as young parents... even when I'm old and gray.

So anyway, after a couple of days of just letting it sink in I decide I need to run myself right over to Carter's and get Landon a "big brother" shirt cause gosh dangit... here we go again!!! YAY!

By the night of my birthday I was almost exploding with excitement but I still didn't want to announce anything just yet. I had plans to go out and I just wanted to enjoy the night! Despite having to "pretend" pour a pocket shot of booze into my soda - I had an awesome night :)

The next few days pass and I'm realizing that I need to finally figure out a doctor over here. I'm still really missing Dr. C. :( So, I figure what's a few more days or maybe a week to tell everyone until after I find a new doctor?! I find Dr. J - she's a midwife and delivers at the hospital I prefer so I decide to give her the first chance. If I don't like her... I can always switch. First appointment scheduled for Oct. 10th... what I thought should be 8 weeks.

Sept 25th:
That very day, I started spotting. Joy. Let freak-out mode ensue. It's supposed to be normal though. I had done a light workout that day so I thought I just overdid it. By that evening it had seemed to have stopped. Thank god.

The next day I had a very fun meetup with a group of friends and their little ones. I was feeling good. Look how cute our babies are!

We're not so bad lookin' either! :)

Later that night it started again. I was hoping it was just cause I'd been up and about all day but by the next morning it was no better so I called the office that I was to see on the 10th and they got me in that morning.

Sept 27th:
Remember this guy???? I like to call it the Vag Cam.

Well, that thing that gave us such good news with Landon at 7 weeks and 3 days when we saw his heartbeat for the first time gave me the worst news ever... "there's no baby in there," says the nurse practitioner.
She tells me either it's earlier in the pregnancy than I think, I'm having a miscarriage or there's a possibility that it's an ectopic pregnancy.

::punchmeinthegut::

I'm to go up to the lab for 3 consecutive blood draws over the course of 4 days that will give us my actual HcG levels and give us a more clear picture of what's going on.
I literally have to hold back tears on my way up to the lab, through that first draw and to my car... where I break down. How can they see... nothing?! When I feel so... pregnant?!

This sucks.

I get a call around 4pm that day to tell me that there's no worry of an ectopic pregnancy and that my HcG level is 40.7. Low... but pregnant. I'm to go back in two days and that number needs to at least double for this pregnancy to be viable.

Sept 28th:
Serious.back.pain. and cramping. Can I please have an epidural? Oh wait...?!
Dr. Google is never good at this point - just sayin'.

Sept 29th:
The floodgates open (if you know what I mean) and I'm stuck in the fetal position. This.is.painful. I don't even want to go to the lab for the blood draw because I already know in my heart what's happening in there.
I muster up the energy to go and of course since it's Saturday, there's no chance in getting the results until Monday when the doctor's office opens at 8am. Ugh.

I had a pretty busy weekend so I actually made it through without thinking about it too much.

Oct 2nd:
I called the office right at 8am even though I already knew what was happening. I didn't want to wait to hear it but they had to call me back. What seemed like an eternity (2 hours) I finally get the call.

Number has dropped.

I didn't even ask what the number was so I have no clue. We're to wait until I get my period to "try again." Yay. Oh, and I have to go back in another week to make sure the number is back to zero. Double yay.

So at this point it just sucks. Life sucks. It's unfair. I'm mad and it seems like everyone around me who is pregnant or was trying to get pregnant is having a baby or peeing some seriously potent HcG. Eff you "natural selection." Eff you "nature's way."

Oct 5th:
I go back for my final blood draw... A Friday of course so they can't call till Monday. But when I get the results they are less than 1, which I guess in the world of miscarriage is good cause that means it all happened naturally.

Anyway... I'm still sad.mad.bitter.jealous.resentful.hurt. I imagine some of those things will never go away but they are getting better day by day.

But... I'm ok. I'll be ok. We'll have another baby - I guess this just wasn't the right time for us.

I Will Always Remember...

Wow... what a struggle bedtime has become.

I know it's mostly because Landon doesn't have his own room right now. If I haven't mentioned it, we all share a room.
He is still in his crib but can easily climb right out so most nights we don't really care where he starts off as long as he falls asleep. Then when I go to bed I move him to his crib if he isn't already there.

We do the same routine every.single.night.

But without a doubt the struggle begins after we've bathed. After we've had some milk and gotten into jammies. After we've brushed his teeth and read a story. We "tuck tuck" him in with his blanket (naney) and his George. And said goodnight.

I barely make it downstairs before he's up and I hear his little feet running across the ceiling from below.

**sigh**

So up I go, then down, and up... then back down. Then I wait at the top of the stairs. Nothing will keep this kid in bed.

He goes in his bed, he jumps down. I put him in our bed, he jumps down. I threaten, he laughs. I give him a choice... what's the point, he'll just get out anyway and pick the other thing. =/ It's SO frustrating.

And don't even get me started if Adam wants to go to bed before Landon has settled on where he's going to lay down... go ahead and add another hour to the struggle since my hubs falls asleep in 2.2 seconds and acrobatics from Landon doesn't phase him once he's out.

We need separate bedrooms.

Eventually, he settles and then he's out. Bliss...

One of my tactics is laying with him - at least then I can remind him to lay down if he's getting antsy instead of repeatedly going up and down the stairs. I don't mind snuggling with him but I do like my "alone" time after he's in bed so sometimes I get frustrated if he continues the antics.

Last night I got a little reminder that it's just a phase... it'll pass... and sometimes you'll never want to forget these times cause no matter how frustrating it is - he's growing up SO fast.
We were laying there snuggling. I had my hand on his tummy and he was finally starting to zonk out.
I kissed him on the forehead and whispered, "G'night Landon, I love you."

He whispers back, "I love you too momma."

And then he's asleep. Where did my little baby go??? I'm not sure but this little boy he's becoming melts my heart!

And that's one thing I will always remember.

BBQ Chicken Pizza

Hrm... what to do with this?

A lil' pizza I reckon :) Mmmmm... I'm giving this one a little twist.

So first we need to get a batch of pizza dough going. Mine takes 1 hr and 40 min in the bread-maker on "dough" cycle. The recipe can be found here.

So I take that chicken and shred it on up. Then I take a little of this:

And this:

Yes, that's an apple. And then some of this:

I'd prefer Sweet Baby Rays but for whatever reason, this is what we had in the fridge. I never buy this... where did it even come from?! Anyway.

Slice up that apple (remove the core please.)

Then heat your pan with some oil.

Throw that onion on in...

Saute it until it's nice and caramelized. Yum. I forgot to take a picture.

Now remember that pizza dough that we started with? Now it's go time. My recipe makes two crusts so split that baby in half and you can either make two types or it freezes well.

Throw down some cornmeal and roll that sucker out to your desired thickness on a pizza stone or you can press it into a pizza maker like I've been doing. I loooooove my pizza maker :)

Slather on that BBQ sauce.

Then I topped it with mozzarella cheese, chicken, bacon (I had leftover from breakfast), those yummy caramelized onions, and you guessed it... apple slices.

Now all I did was plug in my pizza maker and in 8 minutes my pizza was done! I've used my pizza stone in the past as well and you'll want to cook for 18-20 min in a 400 degree oven.

The apples really melt into the pizza and just add a little tang... sort of like a pineapple?! Anyway, enjoy!

Fact.

This is how we spent our day.

Pin-Test #1

So I've been addicted to Pinterest lately. Like bad.

I saw this pin a LONG time ago and knew instantly I wanted to try it. I want one for myself actually but one of my best friends was getting married and since I conveniently took some of her engagement pictures (check them out!) I had some good pictures of her and her soon-to-be hubs and I had to pintest this on her gift! :)

So here we go!

What I used:
  • 2 scraps of 2x4
  • 2 scraps of 1x2 (I might use 2x2 if I do it again)
  • 2 different pieces of coordinating scrapbook paper - her wedding colors were navy, pink and white so I tried to find something that would go well with that.
  • Sticky letters/numbers
  • A cute embellishment
  • Mod Podge
  • A foam brush

I did not cut this wood! Adam helped me with that... and we didn't take measurements - I eyeballed what I wanted and he made the cuts!
He helped me sand it all down too. What a guy!

I got super nervous at this point cause my letters that I bought didn't seem like they were going to fit. I had a minor freak out but in the end I put the letters aside and moved on...

I cut pieces of scrapbook paper out to a little below the size of my boards so you could see some exposed wood. Then I let that dry... notice my wine??? ;)

I started the stick on letters with the date... it seemed like a less daunting task than the quote. Like?

Then came the letters. Oiy. That took a steady hand and a good eye. I made Adam watch me and make sure every letter was straight and in line before I really pushed them down to stick!

Then to put it all together! I got REALLY excited at this point! :) So cute!
Now I broke out the Mod Podge... I slathered that thing like no tomorrow. I really wanted it to shine and I wanted to make sure the paper would never come up!
Then, I went to bed :)
Day 2: I went through all their engagement pictures that were vertical and printed these two that I really liked. I think the one with their puppers CoCo was more relaxed and I know how much they love her so I picked that one. And I glued that sucker on too!

All that was left was another coat of Mod Podge and that little embellishment on the smallest 1x2!

When it was dry I used wood glue to glue all the pieces together. If I make one for myself I probably will skip this step cause I'll know how to set it on my mantle or wherever but since it was going on their gift table I didn't want a piece to get lost or something?! I didn't even bother to wrap it - just tied a bow around it and put my card by it. I'm SO happy with how it turned out!

Congrats again Kevin & Alexis!

Everyone else, happy pinning!!! What have you tried lately that actually worked????

heat wave and a picture splosion!

It was HOT today... we were in the pool all.freaking.day.

Seriously.

Anyway, Landon loves the pool. Landon loves being outside. That pretty much sums up his loves these days. :)

In hopes SOMETHING will get me blogging again... I revamped the place. Hope you like!

Meal Plan 28!

I'm not even going to comment on how I've taken yet another break. See yesterday's post as to why and how busy we've been! :)

Mon: Beer Batter Tilapia & Fries... I just cut the fillets in half, coated them with tempura and fried them. Store bought french fries in the over and waaahhhlahhh! :)
